The Climate Institute

The Climate Institute at Cape May Point Arts and Science Center supports research and education of climate change and its impacts on our coastal ecosystems and communities, and the development of climate solutions.

Our ocean and coastal ecosystems play a critical role in our climate system. They store massive amounts of carbon (often called “blue carbon”); absorb heat; support biodiversity; help to sustain fisheries which support local jobs; and protect coastal communities from rising seas, storm surges, erosion, and flooding. Yet, climate change is already impacting our coastal ecosystems and the health and well-being of coastal communities and economies, underscoring the urgent need for action based on rigorous science; public education and awareness; and the development of solutions that work for people and protect our planet.

The Climate Institute at Cape May Point Arts and Science Center offers a unique opportunity for climate education, scientific research, and a “living lab” for the development of climate solutions.

Dear Friends,

What can we do about climate change? We know that hearing more news about climate change can sometimes feel disheartening. But there is a silver lining: knowledge can lead to action and action can lead to hope.

Please join Cape May Point Arts and Science Center for our 2026 Climate Summit on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

This year’s summit will bring together scientists, experts and community leaders for a day of presentations and conversation about climate science, its impacts on our communities and natural world, and most importantly, what we can do about it.

We have asked our presenters to go beyond simply telling us what is happening. They will share ideas, solutions and practical ways to take action because none of us should have to walk away from a discussion about climate change feeling frustrated or helpless.

Instead, we hope you will leave informed, inspired and perhaps a little more hopeful about the difference we can make.

Admission is free. Lunch is included, but registration is encouraged.

If you believe programs like this are important to our region, please consider making a donation. Your support is welcomed and essential to helping the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center continue to bring world-class speakers, educational programs and cultural experiences to our community.

We hope you will join us for a day of ideas, inspiration, action and a celebration of the possibilities ahead.

Sincerely,

Bob Mullock

Cape May Point Arts and Science Center President
