Plein Air Landscape Painting Retreat
Joseph Sweeney is a professional landscape painter living in Ardmore, PA. He received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from the Philadelphia College of Art (now the University of the Arts) and an MFA from Penn State University. He has taught for many years at area institutions and art centers including PAFA, the University of the Arts, Wayne Art Center, Woodmere Art Museum and Chester Springs Yellow Springs Studio. His work has received numerous awards and is included in many public and private institutions, collections and museums. Join Joe at the Cape May Point Arts and Science Center for Plein Air Landscape Painting from May 19 to 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Learn to paint efficiently out-of-doors with tips on choosing a prime location, reading the weather and light at a particular time of day and setting up a landscape palette.
Plein Air Painting Workshop
Fred Danziger is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a graduate of The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and has had over 30 solo shows in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and New York City (at Sherry French Gallery.) His work is in the permanent collections of 14 American museums. In 2018, he won an EMMY for his work as an illustrator for documentary films.
Fred has been a faculty member of PAFA, Rosemont College and the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
Major awards include the Cresson and Scheidt Travel scholarships from the Academy, a Tiffany Foundation Grant and dozens of painting awards from group juried shows. Most recently (2024-25) Fred was awarded the “Alumni Service Award” from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine arts; and also won the Bertha M. Goldberg Award for painting from the Fellowship of PAFA in 2024.
He is currently represented by FAN Gallery in Philadelphia and James Gallery in Pittsburgh.
Painting with Soft Pastel
Renee Leopardi is an award-winning pastel painter residing and exhibiting in
New Jersey. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Renee earned an Associates
Degree in Liberal Arts and pursued her love of art through self-study and
workshops.
Working primarily in soft pastel since 2012, Renee was able to expand her art
career to soft pastel painting and drawing instruction. She finds continued
inspiration while working with students. Her classes and workshops include a
variety of subjects such as seascapes, floral, still life, local seasonal
landscapes of southern New Jersey, marshes, creeks, the pinelands,
farmland and portraiture.
